At JSH, we look for Haunts that have: SIZE, SCOPE & a WEALTH of UNIQUE FEATURES in relation to the property. A mix of quality & quantity.
More specifically, we really look to see how the space is used: how LIGHTING helps to draw the eye, how a variety of
PROPS populate that environment, and the OVERALL EFFECT on a subjective viewer. (Obviously, this is all based on our own opinions, which are constantly evolving. But, hey, we're only human, right?) Not all yards & neighborhoods are created equally. Please know that if your Haunt is not accepted, it's in no way a denial of you, your creativity or hard work.
Now, we're not literally saying, "You need to spend every dollar you have and become poor just to get on the JSH map." (Some people have taken it like that!) What we're saying is: we assume that most Haunters (ourselves included) look forward to adding new experiences to their displays each year. Things build up little by little, year after year, and eventually you find yourself with an arsenal of Halloween decor. So as that continues to happen, we encourage you to keep submitting because we're sure at some point our tastes will sync up!
All in all, we're two Halloween lovers who created a website to curate a map of NJ Haunts. We pick what we like, which changes often. That includes making decisions you may disagree with and we completely understand that. We hope this illuminates where we're coming from so there isn't any miscommunication.
Thank you from the bottom of our Halloween hearts!
